Genotype and phenotype

Genotype is the inherited biological code. Phenotype is the visible and measurable result of that code interacting with the environment. In skin, phenotype includes sensitivity, pigmentation patterns, dehydration, visible lines and the way the skin responds to stress.

Phenotype is not fixed. Seasons, sleep, UV exposure, pollution and routine choices can all change the way the skin looks and behaves.

Why one routine cannot suit every moment

A person may have an underlying tendency toward dryness but experience oilier, more reactive skin during a humid or stressful period. Another may need richer barrier support in winter and lighter hydration in summer.

Phenotype-adaptive care begins with what the skin is showing now. It means choosing a routine by present need, observing the response and adjusting frequency or texture when conditions change.

How to apply the idea

Start with one main concern, choose a focused line and introduce products gradually. Keep sunscreen and gentle cleansing as stable foundations. If your skin changes, the routine can change too.

NØITA’s collections are organised by visible need — balance, renewal, brightness and glow — so the first decision is practical rather than abstract.
